Well, damn, See… what I’ve done here is, I’ve chosen my first film review to be about a film I can’t describe without spoiling it! Yet, here I go.
Chris Pratt instagrammed straight after watching it, with the kind of face that only added to my intrigue! Get Out seems to have flown under the radar amongst my friends, I had to educate The Pom with the trailer, but I’d seen the teasers and the trailers come and go and still had no clue what was going on. An hour or so in and, if anything, I was even more bewildered! Strangely I never felt lost, just more and more intrigued!
Set in a remote part of the woodlands, Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) has taken the next big step in his relationship with his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams). He has come to meet the parents, but something is not quite right. Being a black man dating a white girl, he has some trepidations about how her father will react. Yet he’s welcomed in with open arms by both parents. Their only hang up seems to be his smoking habit, but with Rose’s mom being a talented psychiatrist that’ll be fixed in no time… And here’s where we start to barrel roll down the rabbit hole!
In a strange twist of fate, there is a big party happening that weekend at the house and Chris is the guest of honour. Now, I know what you’re thinking. I know the ending already. Seen it a thousand times… And at times I knew what was coming, and with a ‘cure’ that is never explained. The endgame, however, is a brain scrambler!
The creepy black maid and mental-looking black gardener (yes, there is a theme here) only add to the edgy vibe!
What a film and this needs to be watched! Whoever pans this, watched it wrong! “Get Out” and see this! (Sorry)
I am landing a very high rating for this, but what stopped it from hitting a full 5 stars was the real predictable moments that took away from the clever twist. It’s been a pretty big hit at the box office so far and the critics are lapping it up, so go and see this movie and let me know what you think in the comments section below……..
